Pair tastings at three of Hunter Valley’s acclaimed wineries with a scenic tour of the region’s rolling countryside for a memorable daytrip that uncorks the bounty of this robust valley.
Sweep past the patchwork farmland and vineyards corrugating the landscape of Australia’s oldest commercial wine-making region. Dotted with charming villages and over 50 wineries, the Hunter Valley produces award-winning varietals including: Semillon, Shiraz, chardonnay, gewürztraminer, cabernet sauvignon, and earthy pinot noirs.
Nestled amongst the hills in the lower valley, the Wollombi Tavern is your first stop for a light al fresco breakfast complete with homemade scones, jam, clotted cream, and tea. Famous for a unique concoction called, Dr. Jurd’s Jungle Juice (free tasting included), the tavern provides a quaint rest stop before stopping by world-renowned Lindeman’s Winery.
A quick class on basic wine tasting is followed by a cheese plate accompanying a sampling of various Lindeman’s wines—including a remarkable sparkling red and rich tawny. Afterward, head over to the Hunter Resort where a guided tour of the vineyard and wine-making process awaits you. In the winery’s restaurant, a gourmet three-course lunch is prepared to highlight the flavors of carefully paired wines included with the meal.
Your third tasting awaits at the Hunter Valley Cellars in the Hunter Valley Gardens complex, as does an assortment of specialty shops offering everything from wine, cheeses, and chocolates, to art, crafts, and unique gifts.

This was a great way to sample (and purchase!) many different wines from the region as well as a fantastic opportunity to spend a day in the scenic countryside of New South Wales.
